The Algerian national team snatched the qualification ticket to the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, after imposing a 3-3 draw on its Austrian counterpart, at dawn on Sunday, in a crazy match that remained open to all possibilities until the final seconds of stoppage time.
This achievement sparked widespread celebrations in various Algerian cities, as thousands of fans took to the streets to celebrate the “Desert Warriors” qualification to the second round for the second time in their history, after the historic achievement achieved in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

For its part, Al-Shaab newspaper reported the atmosphere of celebrations that spread throughout the Algerian neighborhoods and cities, as the streets of the capital were crowded with cars of supporters who sounded their alarms to celebrate the qualification, even though the celebrations started before sunrise.
As for the Competition website, it considered that the team achieved the most important thing by grabbing the pass, while praising the decisive role of Riyad Mahrez, who signed a double that contributed to the qualification.
In turn, the DZfoot website focused on the exciting scenario of the confrontation, and chose an expressive title: “Now… our destination is the round of 32.”
The French newspaper L’Équipe described the match as “full of fluctuations”, referring to the continuous changes that the result witnessed throughout the match.
The French website Maxifoot headlined the news of the match with the phrase: “Algeria snatches qualification. Austria breathes a sigh of relief,” while Le Parisien newspaper described the match scenario as “crazy.”
As for the French website So Foot, it chose a headline that summarizes the vicissitudes of the confrontation, saying: “A match that ended on an emotional high,” in reference to the excitement that accompanied Algeria’s qualification to the next round.
