Voter turnout in Algeria looks set to hit a record low, according to preliminary figures from an electoral agency. If the figure of 20.7 percent turnout stands, it is lower than the previous record of 23 percent from 2021.
In the election held on Thursday, 407 parliamentarians will be elected. Preliminary results are expected in the coming days.
The 2021 parliamentary election was the first since a large pro-democracy demonstration movement swept across the country in 2019.
