Donald Trump has been looking for an effective message before the election this fall.
His hometown may have given him one.
– Many of them are like animals, says the president.
In November, the US Senate and House of Representatives may be controlled by “godless communists” who want to close down the churches and face the greatest threat of societal breakdown ever to hit the country.
At least that’s the image that Donald Trump want to give voters, writes CNN.
Found a message
Many Republicans have already given up on the idea that the party will retain the majority in both houses of Congress in the midterm elections in November.
President Trump has received a lot of criticism for focusing more on the war in Iran than the issues that concern the American people.
Now, however, he seems to have decided on a message that the White House hopes will scare voters away from the Democrats.
The background is the party’s primary election for the House of Representatives in New York earlier this week, where three candidates who identify themselves as “democratic socialists” won against centrist politicians.
These three were supported by the city’s mayor Zohran Mamdani and went to the polls on issues such as a stronger social safety net, free healthcare and harsh criticism of Israel.
“Hardened and Godless”
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump wrote that the Democrats have been taken over by “hard-line, godless communists”.
During a speech in the evening, he repeated the message – and took it a few steps further.
The president then claimed that the Democrats’ “communist policy” would lead to the collapse of society and possibly even violence.
– I’m sorry to say it, but assassination is a big deal for them, he said during the speech during a conference for the conservative movement Faith & Freedom Coalition according to CNN.
– Many of them are like animals.
Conceived strategy
According to CNN, Trump painted the fight against communism in religious terms, addressed the violence against Christians in Nigeria and warned of dire consequences at home.
– They will close your churches in this country, says Trump.
– They want to put an end to religion.
Trump said that the Democrats “have big problems” and that the progress of the socialists “doesn’t end with New York”.
After the speech, Ralph Reed, president of the Faith & Freedom Coalition and a close ally of Donald Trump, said that the communist scaremongering is a contrived strategy for the midterm elections, writes Axios.
Believe in turnaround
Reed says the disparity in engagement between Democratic and Republican voters at the moment is alarming.
– That’s the bad news. The good news is that it’s June. If we do our job and voters understand the contrast between sanity and insanity, the numbers will change, Reed told Axios.
CNN points out that the faction of “democratic socialists” within the Democrats is far from what one would “normally define as communism.”
“Achieving such an ideology would first require the de facto dismantling of capitalism, a step that no leading Democrat believes is either desirable or feasible,” writes CNN.
