A Qatari air bridge was launched to Venezuela today, Friday, carrying a team from the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group affiliated with the Internal Security Force, along with field hospitals, medical teams, and relief aid, based on the directives of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Qatari team also includes internationally accredited specialists in search and rescue operations, medical personnel, in addition to advanced equipment, to support those affected in the affected areas in Venezuela, according to what the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
In turn, the Qatari Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, announced on the X platform today, Friday, the launch of the Qatari air bridge to Venezuela, in support of international efforts to rescue those affected by the two earthquakes that struck, yesterday, Thursday, the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
Today, Friday, the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck the country rose to 589 people, while nearly 3,000 people were injured, according to what was announced by Venezuela’s interim President, Delcy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said during a meeting with military and civilian officials: “Unfortunately, the number of victims has now risen to 589 dead,” after a previous official toll of 235 dead.
Rescue teams continue their efforts to find survivors under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
The US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the two earthquakes at 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, which makes them among the strongest earthquakes recorded globally since the beginning of this year.
