Behind the bassist's bass. There he is. Who then? Mr. Anderson, sorry, Keanu Reeves.

CONCERT Feeding pigeons or listening to Dogstar.

Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s more rock.

Dogs
Place: Gröna Lund, Stockholm. Audience: A couple of thousand. Length: 85 minutes. Best: “Wing” and “All in now” are small exclamation marks. Worst: The ballad “Glimmer” is in turn the toughest question mark.

In any case, it seems to be a fun pastime.

Dogs formed in 1991, took an 18-year hiatus between 2002 and 2020, and consists of the singer and guitarist Brett Domrose and two actors. One plays drums and is called Robert Mailhouse. He has guested on several well-known TV series and had a fairly large role in “Sports night” in the 90s.

Mailhouse also appeared together with the band’s bassist in the film “Speed”. And the bassist in particular needs no introduction. He is the reason why Dogstar performs on the amusement park’s big stage and not in a suitcase out in the parking lot:

Keanu Reeves.

Reeves may be the world’s most popular Hollywood star. He seems to be incredibly grounded and likable. He strolls in without much trouble, waves a bit shyly to the fans, hangs his Fender bass dressily down one thigh and then basically plays the same bass line for almost 90 minutes.

The trio seems to have excellent taste in music. A little simplified, you can say that they cross-link post-punk with lagomgrunge. At best, it is clear how much they appreciate, for example The Cure and “The killing moon” with Echo & The Bunnymen. At worst, they sound like the fathers Blink-182. It also doesn’t ooze any obvious bangers.

But there is absolutely no reason to take Dogstar any more seriously. After all, it is about three older men with a common hobby. They like to ride around and rock a little. Everything is very unpretentious and relaxed. Many certainly experience more drama when they rest the dog.

For long moments it is like watching three old childhood friends build a model railway together.

It’s quite nice.
