Norway also won their second game in the World Cup and Erling Haaland, 25, became a two-goal scorer again.
Norway is now ready for the round of 16.
Norway has a maximum of six points in World Cup Group I after a 3-2 victory against Senegal in New Jersey.
Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy played a starring role in the first half, in both positive and negative ways. He made two great saves to stop Norway from taking the lead, but he also made a couple of shaky interventions.
Marcus Holmgren Pedersen’s shot that led to 1–0 did not look unassailable.
Haaland two-goal scorer
Erling Haaland extended Norway’s lead in the 48th minute and after a quick Senegalese cut, Haaland made it 3–1 in the 58th minute.
The 2-1 goal set Haaland up when he was completely clean in the penalty area and then he was even more free when he bumped in 3-1 on the volley.
Haaland is now tied for second in the shooting league in WC 2026 together with Kylian Mbappé. The two have scored four goals and Lionel Messi has scored five.
On to the round of 16
Senegal reduced again in extra time and that goal could prove costly for Norway.
The victory did mean that Norway qualified for the round of 16, but the last Senegalese goal meant that France have the better goal difference going into the final group stage.
Norway must therefore win against France to finish first in the group and thus have to face a group third in the round of 16 instead of facing the second from group E.
Norway has advanced from the group stage once before in WC history. After the final whistle, the players and supporters celebrated together by ‘rowing’ in the air – a gesture that has become synonymous with Norway during the World Cup.
