Moroccan national football team coach Mohamed Wehbe expressed his happiness at achieving the desired goal of defeating Scotland 1-0 on Friday in the 2026 World Cup, stressing that his calm captain, Achraf Hakimi, is “the best right-back in the world.”
Wehbe said in a press conference after the victory over Scotland and taking the lead in Group C: “We are very happy because we won the three points, and this was our desired goal. I think we controlled the course of the match and performed very well and were the best.”

He added: “We were also good in the second half. We controlled well and managed the match well. Our intention was to score the second goal and we wasted many opportunities to do so. When you do not score, you must withstand their style of play and their long balls, and I am happy to have a team that knows how to suffer when the situation requires that.”
Morocco has come a long way towards the round of 32 after raising its score to four points following the opening draw with Brazil (1-1).
He continued: “Frankly, I am well satisfied compared to the first match against Brazil. I have seen a great improvement and we will be better in the third match. This is the beauty of the World Cup when you face competitors who create different problems for you, and the end of today’s match will help us in the last match.”
He added, “We have not qualified yet, and therefore there is no room for rotation in the third match. I must push the best lineup to win it, given the readiness of the players and the opposing team’s players. What is certain is that those who are ready and able to help us achieve victory over Haiti will be essential.”
Wehbe spoke about his captain, Hakimi, who was confirmed to be referred to trial in France against the backdrop of an accusation he denies of rape. He said: “He was in good condition. He woke up in the morning, ate like everyone else, got ready, and moved everyone. He was in the dressing room focused. He wanted to play a great match, and he played a great match. So we have nothing to say. We just stand behind him, and we are very calm, and he is also very calm.”
He added: “He will play more very good matches. He is the best right-back in the world, and he will show that in this cup. He is a very important person to me, to the technical staff, to the players, to the national team and to the Moroccan people.”
