Al Jazeera Center for Studies issued the thirtieth issue of Labab Journal for Strategic Studies, in light of a complex international and regional context that coincides with the outbreak of war between the United States and Israel on the one hand, and Iran on the other hand, a war that constitutes a major analytical focus in this issue.
The issue deals with the war that broke out on February 28, 2026, which began with attacks targeting senior leaders in Iran, before Tehran responded with strikes that affected the Gulf states, which led to wide repercussions at the regional and international levels, including unprecedented threats to regional stability and major losses in the global economy. The issue presents an analytical approach that sees this war as a model for broader transformations in the nature of contemporary conflicts, in light of the overlapping of military, economic, and political dimensions within a complex conflict structure.

The issue places this war within a broader context of accelerating global transformations, and includes studies that address the impact of technological transformations in the conflict, including “Posthumanism and Fifth Generation Wars,” which discusses the reshaping of war in light of the growing role of artificial intelligence, and the study “Artificial Intelligence and Contemporary War Transformations: Gaza as a Model,” which analyzes the role of algorithmic systems in managing military operations.
In parallel, the issue discusses the structural transformations in the international system by studying “Signs of the decline of Western hegemony and the restructuring of the international system,” which monitors the rise of new international powers and the decline of Western hegemony, in addition to the study of “Strategic Patience,” which deals with time as a tool in the balance of power and conflict management.
The issue also includes topics related to development issues and internal interactions, including the study “The Developmental Role of Qatari Women,” which highlights their contribution to supporting the non-oil economy, and the study “Soft Management of Protest Movements in Morocco,” which deals with transformations in protest management.
The issue concludes with a critical reading of a book that addresses the rise of China and shifts in the global balance of power, within a framework that reflects trends in reshaping the international system.
This issue reflects an analytical approach that focuses on understanding the complexities of the current stage through multi-level approaches that link contemporary wars with technological and structural transformations in the international system.
