Faris Al-Nur, a member of the Presidential Council of the “Tasas” coalition, which was formed by the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, announced his resignation from membership in the Council and from his position as governor of Khartoum Region, saying that the scene had shifted from searching for stability to targeting Sudan, its unity and sovereignty.
Al-Nur was the governor of Khartoum region within this framework, which is not recognized by the Sudanese government.
The resigned leader said in a recording obtained by Al Jazeera that his resignation “came after a deep review of the course of action during the last period, and after a careful assessment of his moral responsibility towards the Sudanese people and the future of the nation.”
He added that he supported the idea of “establishing” as a temporary transitional step to serve citizens, preserve what remains of national institutions, contribute to creating a climate for peace, and provide a responsible administrative model that helps move from the reality of war to the horizon of statehood and stability.
He continued, “But unfortunately, the scene has turned to targeting Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and independence.”
The past weeks have witnessed increasing defections from the Rapid Support, and among the most prominent of those who defected are Ali Abdullah Rizkallah, known as “Al-Safna,” and Al-Nour Al-Qubba, one of its founders and prominent field commanders.

“fake government”
In February 2025, the Rapid Support Forces, political forces, and armed movements, most notably the SPLM-N led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, signed a political charter in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, to form a parallel government under the slogan “Peace and Unity.”
A month after the charter was approved, the coalition factions signed a transitional constitution that stipulated that Sudan was “a secular, democratic, decentralized state with a Sudanese identity, based on the separation of religion from the state.”
In July 2025, the coalition announced the formation of a government in the areas subject to rapid support, and announced the names of governors for the regions.
He also decided to form a presidential council consisting of 15 members, headed by Rapid Support Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), the head of the SPLM-N, Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, as his deputy, and Mohamed Hassan Al-Taayshi as prime minister.
At that time, the Sudanese government denounced the announcement of a “fake government,” and said that the participation of civilian components in this announcement “confirms their involvement in the conspiracy that was hatched in full coordination with rapid support to seize power by force on the morning of April 15, 2023.”
