When the season began, neither Benjamin Nygren nor Gustaf Lagerbielke could hardly have believed that they would start a WC premiere nine months later.
None of them had even played a competitive international at the time.
But now they belong to Blågult’s premiere heroes and immediately after the 5-1 overrun, they got a moment with their closest and not least girlfriends. Sportbladet’s photographer Pontus Orre captured the sentiments of tenderness.
– It was nice. This is the biggest thing I’ve been through in my life and to be able to share it with the one you love the most, I’m incredibly happy and grateful for. She knows how much this means to me and how much I sacrificed to get here. So it was very nice, says Gustaf Lagerbielke about the meeting with partner Johanna Gerendas.
“She means everything to me”
Nygren took so much time with girlfriend Andrea Karlström and other loved ones that he hadn’t even had time to shower when the team’s bus was due to roll back to the hotel.
– Andrea means everything to me. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her. My family was also here and they also mean everything to me. They have made me the person I am and I have them to thank for everything, says Nygren.
