Tunisia didn’t concede a single goal in their ten games in the World Cup qualifiers, but Sweden broke the World Cup clean sheet straight away.
Blågult won 5–1 and Alexander Isak was the man of the match at the Estadio Monterrey in Mexico.
In the seventh minute, Isak ran onto a deep pass from Victor Nilsson Lindelöf and disturbed the Tunisian goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh, who did not get the ball away well enough. In the second wave, Yasin Ayari scored Sweden’s lead goal.
In the 30th minute, Sweden countered and Isak fired a shot outside the penalty area. Mouhib Chamakh failed to stop the shot and Isak scored on his World Cup debut.
One goal and two assists
Tunisia came in between with a reduction at the end of the first half, but Isak made it 3–1 after an hour of play. He stole the ball from Tunisia’s team captain Ellyes Skhiri and served Viktor Gyökeres a completely open position which the attacking colleague managed without problem.
The last goal of the match came in the 84th minute. Isak then passed the ball to Mattias Svanberg, who scored immediately after his dive.
Isak has been badly injured for the past six months and has not played a single full game since injuring his foot in December. But against Tunisia, he still managed to stay on the pitch for almost the entire match.
In added time, Yasin Ayari scored his second goal of the match.
Dream mode for advancement
Sweden has now put itself in a good position to advance to the round of 16 in the World Cup. The two best teams in all twelve groups advance, and the same also applies to the eight best group threes.
Sweden’s fine goal difference can be important both in a battle with the teams in their own group and in a battle with teams from other groups to become one of the best group threes.
Sweden lead Group F ahead of the Netherlands and Japan, who played 1-1 earlier in the night.
