Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said that “the World Cup is not won based on the first match,” after the five-time world champions played a difficult 1-1 draw with Morocco on Saturday in the 2026 World Cup.
The Seleção was in danger of losing its opening match in the World Cup for the first time since 1934, after falling behind to a goal by Ismail Saibari in New Jersey.

Vinicius Junior scored a stunning equalizer to give Brazil a point, but Ancelotti admitted the performance was not up to expectations.
The Italian said: “I think it was a difficult match, especially at the beginning. I think the team was a little nervous and that the nerves were frayed.”

He added: “We did not play well, but we cannot lose confidence. This is the first match in the World Cup and we cannot believe that the team will perform perfectly from the beginning.”
He continued: “This is the result we got. It was not bad, but we will continue to build from the second match. You do not win the World Cup based on your first match.”
