Yesterday, Thursday, the United Nations expressed its regret at the intensification of Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank at a record pace, with an average of six attacks per day resulting in casualties or damage.
The United Nations has documented more than a thousand attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of the year 2026, confirming the occurrence of casualties and property damage as a result of this violence.
According to figures from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israeli settler violence affected more than 230 areas throughout the West Bank, as told to reporters by the spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric.
He stated that last week alone, settler attacks resulted in the injury of more than 30 Palestinians, and caused widespread damage to property, infrastructure and livelihoods.
Dujarric revealed that the current rate of settler attacks – which cause injuries or property damage – averages six attacks per day, and that it is the highest ever recorded in one year.
He stressed that settler violence and other access restrictions caused the displacement of more than 2,200 Palestinians this year, while hundreds were displaced due to the demolition of their homes by the Israeli authorities.
Imposing sanctions
Last Tuesday, the foreign ministers of Australia, Canada, France, Norway, and Britain announced the imposition of sanctions on networks that enable Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank.
In this context, the head of the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Committee, Moayed Shaaban, warned that Israel had moved to the stage of “intensive implementation” of its settlement project.
Shaaban said – in a statement on Thursday – that the Israeli government has approved – since its formation in late 2022, headed by Benjamin Netanyahu – the establishment of 103 new settlement sites.
Yesterday, Amnesty International said that the sharp acceleration in the pace of ethnic cleansing – which Israel is practicing against the Palestinians in the West Bank – must prompt urgent global action to stop the annexation of the West Bank, and cut off support for the occupation and its racist regime.
Earlier, the Israeli “Peace Now” movement reported that last week, Netanyahu’s government approved the allocation of $51 million to prepare plans for building 69 settlements in the occupied West Bank.
About 750,000 Israeli settlers reside in 141 settlements and 224 settlement outposts in the West Bank, including 250,000 in 15 settlements in East Jerusalem.
Since October 2023, the Israeli occupation has escalated its attacks in the West Bank, in addition to the increase in the frequency of attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, with the aim of forcibly displacing them in conjunction with the intensification of settlement operations.
