Lasse Rydqvist, meteorologist at Klart.

An unusual weather path, starting over the Mediterranean Sea, is approaching Sweden.

It contains heavy, persistent rain.

– It will come over northern Sweden tomorrow, says Väder-Lasse Rydqvist.

5B is the designation for the low pressure approaching Sweden.

It is also called “meteorologists’ worst nightmare”, due to the unpredictability of the trajectory.

– It is a low pressure that takes an unusual path over Scandinavia or Sweden, says Lasse Rydqvist on the weather app Klart.

Usually, the meteorologist explains, low pressure comes in from the British Isles, via the Norwegian Sea or the North Sea.

– Now instead it forms down here around the Mediterranean area, Poland, enters over the Baltics and then comes up here.

The rain will hit in the north - and in the south.
Here is the rain area on Thursday afternoon.

“Heavy rain”

How will the weather be then?

– Rainy, persistent and it can probably be quite heavy rain from time to time from what comes up here.

By “here”, Lasse Rydqvist refers to northern Sweden, which can see the 5B low pressure as early as tomorrow, Friday.

– It comes in a fairly easterly trajectory this time. Most recently, it was significantly further west towards the Baltic Sea and parts of Uppland that had to take part in that. But the difficulties with a 5B low pressure are really the track.

In what way?

– It’s a bit like dragging a wet brush over the map. Then if you move your hand just a little bit to the side, the largest amounts will end up a few miles further east.

So it is not certain that this will end up over northern Sweden?

– I would say that it is starting to be pretty safe now, with one day to go. It has looked like so many runs now in the last few days that they want to go there. Then where exactly the largest amounts end up, it is more difficult to know.

Rain also in the south – dry in between

Southern Sweden can also get rain on Friday, but a completely different story.

– There, instead, another area of rain comes in, which comes in from the southwest.

– In between, it can be quite nice weather. Eastern Svealand and southern Norrland look set to get the best weather tomorrow.
