The royal couple receives a 14 kilo brass candlestick as a gift from the Riksdag and the government on the occasion of the impending golden wedding.
On Saturday, the royal couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The candlestick has a shape that is inspired by a classic chamber candlestick, the base of which is a bowl for burned-out matches.
Chairman Andreas Norlén says that the purpose of the gift is to “symbolically light a candle for love, something that may be needed in these sometimes dark times”.
“The polished surface of the candlestick forms a golden mirror that frames and reflects the flame from the candle. The golden reflections symbolize the eternal flame of love,” says Norlén in a press release.
