Deep below the sea surface, at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, the world’s largest grave for whales has been discovered. Among the hundreds of fossils is one that is estimated to be over five million years old.
The deep-sea trench is approximately 1,200 kilometers long, located between 4,600 and 7,000 meters deep, according to the study published in the scientific journal Nature, reports Sweden’s Radio Ekot.
The site is located west of the coast of Australia in the southeastern part of the Indian Ocean and was discovered by Chinese scientists.
According to the study, the reason why so many whale carcasses have gathered there is because the seabed forms a v-shaped deep sea grave.
