Canada looks set to become the next country to ban social media for young people.
Culture Minister Marc Miller has presented a bill that, if passed, would limit access to social media for anyone under the age of 16, reports the public service company CBC.
– We have failed our children. That’s enough now. We need basic protection so that all children in this country can feel safe on platforms they use every day, he says in Parliament.
In the past, Australia, France and Malaysia, among others, have introduced or in their parliaments voted for similar decisions.
Last autumn, Sweden appointed an investigation into age limits on social media.
