Super Mario continues to be a cash cow in cinemas.
Now the new film has brought in 1 billion dollars.
The former The Mario movie was a success.
It is now clear that the sequel “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will be the first film this year to bring home cinema revenues of over a billion dollars, i.e. around 9.5 billion Swedish kronor.
It is thus the second highest-grossing film based on a game, only “Super Mario bros movie” is ahead, writes Deadline. They also write that the two-film Super Mario franchise is the ninth-highest-grossing animated series in a list topped by Silly Me, Shrek, and Toy Story, but not far behind several of the titles on the list.
482.5 billion is US revenue and 571.5 from the rest of the world.
The movie got three plus by Aftonbladet’s Leo Pettersson.
A third film is coming in 2029 and Nintendo has more movies, including one about Zelda in the works.
