Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday offered his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a face-to-face meeting, also expressing his readiness for a comprehensive ceasefire during the negotiations.
Zelensky said – in an open letter addressed to Putin – that his country proposes to end this war through a direct dialogue between them.
The letter stated that Ukraine believes that the United States is fully focused on the Iranian issue, and it would be a mistake to wait until the war in Europe returns to the forefront of its concerns.
Zelensky added that the United States is able to monitor the ceasefire along the cessation of hostilities line.
“Return civilians”
Zelensky also presented his country’s readiness for a comprehensive exchange of prisoners of war with Russia, considering that this could be a good introduction to ending the war.
The Ukrainian president called on his Russian counterpart to take serious steps to return civilians and children who were “taken during the war.”
In his message, he touched on the human losses of the Russian army, saying that he received – last Wednesday – reports indicating losses exceeding 30,000 dead and wounded in this army, pointing out that “this number is repeated monthly, and we have photographic documentation of these losses.”

For its part, the Kremlin said – in response to the letter – that the Ukrainian president is “welcome at any time” to meet with his Russian counterpart Putin in Moscow.
Official media quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that Zelensky could come to Moscow at any time, adding that Putin “has not yet seen” the Ukrainian president’s message.
In recent months, the frequency of exchange of drone attacks across the border between Russia and Ukraine has escalated, in light of the continuation of the war that has been raging between them for more than 4 years.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war that has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands and displaced millions have faltered, as negotiations reached a dead end in light of increasing human losses.
