The independent authority responsible for managing the Panama Canal expected an increase in shipping traffic through the canal as the war between the United States and Iran continues in the Middle East, according to what Reuters reported.
The authority said on Tuesday that the conflict in the region would push more ships to cross the canal, in light of the disruption of traditional shipping routes.
Reuters quoted the authority’s financial director, Victor Vial, as saying during a meeting that “this situation is expected to continue until the crisis in the Middle East is resolved.”
