The Yemeni Islah Party announced today, Saturday, the assassination of one of its leaders by unidentified gunmen in the city of… Aden The temporary capital in the south of the country, while the police announced that they had begun investigating the incident.
The party’s official website said, “Unidentified gunmen assassinated the leader of the Yemeni Islah Party in the interim capital, Aden, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Shaer, this Saturday morning, in one of the city’s streets.”
He added that the poet “was assassinated while on his way to his school in the Kabuta area of Mansoura District to attend the 2026 Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Championship.”
He continued, “The gunmen were in a Hilux car, and they intercepted the poet’s car at the corner before he got out of it next to his school, and they fired a barrage of bullets at him, which led to his immediate death, before they fled, while the victim was taken to the hospital, where he died.”
The website indicated that Abdul Rahman Al-Shaer is “a leader in reform, chairman of the board of directors of Nawras Private Schools, and an educational figure with well-known roles.”
He stated that the Al-Shaer assassination incident comes as part of “a series of assassination crimes that targeted the leaders and cadres of the Islah Party and symbols of popular resistance that contributed to the liberation of Aden Directorate from the Houthi militia.”
Local media said, “While the poet was parking his car, there was a car waiting for him. Armed men got out, shot him, and then fled.”
She added that Al-Shaer was shot in the head and twice in the chest, which led to his immediate death.
Aden security spokesman Khaled Al-Sanami said that the police, in coordination with the Forensic Evidence Department, moved to the site of the murder incident to take the necessary legal measures and remove evidence from the crime scene.
Al-Sanmi added in a Facebook post that the police began an urgent investigation into the incident, including tracking surveillance cameras in the vicinity of the incident with the aim of identifying the perpetrators and arresting them as soon as possible.
He pointed out that the security authorities are continuing their efforts until reaching those involved and bringing them to justice.
Ali Al-Jaradi, head of the Islah Party’s media department, mourned the poet, describing him as a distinguished educational and administrative figure.
The Yemeni Islah Party is the largest Islamic party in Yemen, and it participates in the internationally recognized government, and dozens of its leaders have been subjected to assassination operations over the past years.
