Retired English star Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United player, suffered a strange injury that may force him to undergo surgery in the next few days.
The British newspaper “Mirror” reported that Rooney was taken to hospital after suffering an accident while recording an episode of his podcast, “The Wayne Rooney Show,” which was shown on the BBC network before the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Chelsea.
She explained that 40-year-old Ronnie suffered a hand injury, which may require surgery.
Rooney conducted an interview with his compatriot Jordan Pickford, the Everton goalkeeper, and during the recording, the duo went through some goalkeeping training, and while trying to save a penalty kick taken by the latter, Rooney fell to the ground and injured his left hand.
Ronnie, who underwent tests in the hospital, contacted a surgeon to find out the severity of the injury, knowing that he had another consultation within the next few hours to determine whether he needed surgery or not.
Rooney appeared on screen during the FA Cup final wearing a wrist brace, and spoke about the details of what happened to him, saying: “I stood in the goal and made a wonderful save from Jordan’s shot, and after that I injured my hand.”
He added: “I am following up on my condition with a surgeon. I went to the hospital and will return on Monday.”
Rooney’s career
Rooney began his football career with Everton before his star shone during his 13-year spell with Manchester United (from 2004 to 2017).
During this period, Rooney played 559 matches with the Red Devils in all competitions, during which he scored 253 goals and provided 143 assists to his teammates, according to data from the famous Transfer Market website.
He also won 17 titles with the team, the most prominent of which are the English Premier League (5), the European Champions League (1), and the Club World Cup (1).
After retiring from playing in 2021, Rooney went through several coaching experiences, and now works in the field of technical analysis for English Premier League matches and European competitions.
