Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that what he is doing is implementing his pledge to change the Middle East. He accused Hezbollah of undermining “peace efforts”, at a time when Israel continues to launch attacks on southern Lebanon despite the announcement of a ceasefire.
Netanyahu explained that he was working “in full coordination with the American administration” regarding Iran and Lebanon, and accused Hezbollah of trying to undermine “Israel’s efforts” to reach a peace agreement with Lebanon.
Yesterday, Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon for three weeks following a new round of talks in the White House between the ambassadors of the two countries, expressing his hope that a peace agreement would be reached during the current year.
Netanyahu said in his first statement after extending the ceasefire, “We have begun a path to reach a historic peace between Israel and Lebanon, and it is clear to us that Hezbollah is trying to undermine that.”
He added, “We maintain complete freedom of action against every threat, and we attacked yesterday and today, and we are committed to restoring security to the people of the north.”
Attacks on southern Lebanon
On the ground, on Friday, the Israeli occupation army launched 3 raids on the town of Deir Ams in the Tire district of southern Lebanon, despite the continued validity of the ceasefire agreement in the country.
The raids came after the Israeli army warned the residents of the town to evacuate, while it continued bombing operations in the towns of Naqoura and Bayyada, and bombarded with artillery two other towns in the Tyre district.
The Lebanese News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft launched three successive raids on the town of Deir Ams in the Tyre district.
The agency pointed out that the Israeli army carried out a large bombing in the town of Naqoura, and bombarded with artillery the outskirts of the towns of Al-Mansouri and Beit Al-Siyad in Tyre, and its forces continued to carry out bombings in Al-Bayada.
On April 17, US President Donald Trump announced a 10-day renewable truce between Israel and Hezbollah, then announced yesterday, Thursday, its extension for 3 weeks.
Before the truce, on March 2, Israel launched an aggression against Lebanon, leaving 2,491 dead and 7,719 injured, in addition to more than a million displaced, according to the latest official data.
Israel has been occupying areas in southern Lebanon, some of them for decades and others since the previous war between October 2023 and November 2024, and in the current aggression it has penetrated a distance of about 10 kilometers into the southern border.
