The devastating floods in southern China’s Guangxi region continue to claim victims. The number of confirmed dead has risen to 39 and nine people are still missing, state media reports.
The storm with rain and flooding has hit southern and central China hard this week. Twenty-six people were killed when a dam burst at the water reservoir in Liulan, and seven people are missing, according to the state-run New China News Agency.
– We never received any warning. If we had received it, the losses would have been significantly fewer, says a man named Huang.
In Gantang, people collect furniture and personal belongings in piles on the streets, while residents clean their houses after the muddy water.
600 residents of the village of Dutian, which is located near the reservoir and was directly affected when the water rose, have found shelter but are cut off from the outside world.
