Russia is banning diesel exports to address a growing fuel shortage in the country caused by Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy facilities.

Over 90 percent of Russian regions have been under fuel rationing or fuel shortages since June, according to local media and official statements.

In order to increase fuel availability in the country, the Russian government introduced a ban on diesel exports on Wednesday. The ban applies until July 31, says a statement.

Ukraine has attacked refineries as far away as Omsk in western Siberia, deep into Russia.

The fuel shortage has led to long queues at gas stations and dissatisfaction among the population.
