The coastal governorate of Latakia is witnessing a remarkable tourist movement, clearly evident in the congestion of the roads leading to the city, especially those coming from nearby governorates, in a scene that reflects the state of relative stability experienced by the Syrian coast, and the increasing demand for the sea destinations that the governorate abounds with.
During a tour of the “Syria Now” platform’s correspondent along the shores of Latakia, he observed a remarkable diversity in its nature, which gave it an additional attraction.
Al-Badrosiyah…a sandy beach that attracts the people of Aleppo
The tour started from the Badrosiyah area, which is about 53 kilometers north of the center of Latakia, where there is a wide sandy beach known in local circles as a favorite destination for the people of Aleppo.
While the Aleppo dialect seems to be dominant among visitors to the region and its coast, visitors coming from Aleppo confirmed that this beach has a special place for them, describing it as a destination that cannot be abandoned no matter how much they visit other beaches.
One of them praised the “Syria Now” correspondent for the beach’s breadth and cleanliness, and considered it a suitable option for those looking for calm and being away from crowds, while another pointed out that the demand this year seems to be greater compared to previous seasons, coinciding with a greater flow of movement between the governorates.
Ras Al-Basit and Umm Al-Tuyur…diversity in terrain and services
In northern Latakia, near Badrosiyah, is Ras Al Basit Beach, which is distinguished by its beautiful nature and attracts large numbers of tourists every summer.
As for Umm Al-Tuyour Beach, it is 34 kilometers from the city center, and is characterized by varying water levels to suit the varying swimming abilities of visitors.
A visitor expressed her admiration for the area that combines sea and mountain, in addition to the generosity of its residents.
Wadi Qandil…paid services
At a distance of 29 kilometers from the city, Wadi Qandil Beach is located, where most of its facilities are rented, unlike the beaches of Badrusiyah and Umm al-Tayur, but it provides privacy and advanced services for families and tourist groups.
A visitor coming from the city of Salamiya in the Hama countryside reported that she came as part of a family tourist group, and chose the place for its cleanliness and the quality of restaurants and facilities.
Another visitor confirmed that Latakia is “the mother of tourism and beauty in Syria,” stressing that it is the first destination for any Syrian thinking of spending a summer vacation, especially with the availability of a safe and stable atmosphere.
“Maldives Syria” for professional swimmers
At a distance of 23 kilometers from the center of the governorate, Burj Islam Beach, or the Turkmen Cross, is located, known locally as the “Maldives of Syria,” thanks to its deep waters, distinctive color, and high rocks that make it an ideal destination for skilled swimmers.
During an interview with a Syria Now correspondent, one of the residents of the area warned visitors of the danger of the beach due to its great height and the depth of its waters, advising that only those who have sufficient swimming experience should go there.

The city’s beaches… lively and highly popular
In the center of the city of Latakia, there are several beaches for vacationers, most notably Ibn Hani and Blue Beach, where there was heavy demand and noticeable crowding, with a wide variety of services, restaurants and cafes, making it the closest option for the city’s residents and visitors who want an active and bustling atmosphere.

With the harsh living conditions that large groups of Syrians are still suffering from, the various regions of Latakia provide options that suit different classes, especially in the summer, when people search for places to summer with the end of the school year and the rising temperatures.
