A missing painting by Spanish artist Joaquín Sorolla has been found on the street in Seville by a man who thought it was rubbish, but liked the frame, according to The Guardian.
The painting, which is worth around SEK 1.7 million, was supposed to be packed for a beach holiday with its owners, but was left behind in the stress. The painting was later found in Seville by Andres Hurtado, who found it on the street and thought it was junk but brought it home because he liked the gold frame. He was assisted by AI that was able to identify the painting as genuine Sorolla. Something that was later confirmed by an auction house.
When Hurtado saw a wanted notice that the painting had been reported stolen, he immediately contacted the police to clear up the misunderstanding. The artwork has now been returned to the family, who have promised Hurtado a reward.
