A stable marriage usually does not require repeated assurances that it will not end, but when such statements are said at a sensitive political moment, they reflect anxiety more than reassurance.
Huckabee’s statements came during a celebration held in Tel Aviv on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, where he stressed that the partnership between the two countries is rooted in history, common values, and strategic interests.
He stressed that there is “no chance” of the collapse of the historical relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv, and that the two countries will remain partners because separation is not a possible option, and the alliance between the two countries is deeply rooted.
Timing of American messages
He also reaffirmed the religious dimension of the relationship, considering that Judeo-Christian foundations played a role in establishing American identity.
But the timing of these messages cannot be separated from the escalating debate within the United States regarding the future of the relationship with Israel, nor from the indicators of divergence that have emerged during recent months between the administration of President Donald Trump and the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
While Huckabee asserts that the relationship is “too strong to be broken,” American and Israeli reports reveal a more complex reality.
The Politico website pointed to the escalating tension in relations between the United States and Israel, and said that the Israeli leadership entered President Donald Trump’s new term believing that the “America First” policy would not affect its special relationship with Washington, and that American support would remain as constant as it was before.
However, the course of events revealed, according to the report, a gradual shift in the American administration’s approach, as American interests began to take precedence over any other considerations, even if this conflicted with Israel’s security and political priorities.
This transformation became clearer after the joint war against Iran, when Tel Aviv expected that military coordination would lead to a new phase of rapprochement. However, the following months witnessed an increase in disagreements, especially with the progress of the American diplomatic track towards Tehran, which raised widespread Israeli reservations.
The question is about the limits of support for Israel
At the heart of this scene, US Vice President J.D. Vance emerged as one of the most prominent voices calling for redefining the relationship with Israel.
He emphasized on more than one occasion that American and Israeli interests are not always identical, and that the United States should not enter into military confrontations on behalf of Israel.

According to a study issued by the Al Jazeera Center for Studies, the “Israeli exception” that has governed the relationship between the two countries for decades has begun to face increasing challenges, as a result of the change in the American political mood and the increased space for public criticism of Israeli policies within official and party institutions.
The study believes that Vance’s statements, Congressional positions, and shifts within public opinion all constitute indicators of a gradual change in the nature of the traditional relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv.
