Russia announced the interception of 419 drones launched in several regions, including the capital, Moscow, during Monday night and into Tuesday morning, while the Ukrainian authorities reported that 10 people were killed in Russian attacks yesterday, Monday, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mocked Russia’s failure to extend control over the Donbass region.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said today that air defense forces intercepted 419 Ukrainian drones overnight, including over the Moscow region.
She indicated that Ukrainian drones were intercepted in 19 regions, including the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed to its territory, and the neighboring Russian Krasnodar region.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said – in posts on Telegram – that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 50 drones as they were heading to the Russian capital, with no casualties or damage reported so far.
Sobyanin explained that rescue teams deployed in the areas where drone debris fell, without providing further details.
For its part, the Ukrainian army announced, on Tuesday, that the number of Russian soldiers killed and wounded since the beginning of the war had risen to about 1,403,550 individuals, including 1,350 killed or wounded in the past 24 hours.
Ukrainian dead
On the other hand, the Ukrainian authorities announced that 10 people were killed in Russian attacks – yesterday, Monday – on Dnipro, Zaporozhye and Kharkiv.
In the city of Dnipro, southeastern Ukraine, 6 people were killed and 29 others were injured in a missile attack, according to what Dnipropetrovsk District Governor Oleksandr Hansa announced in a post on Telegram.
Hansa posted a photo showing a minibus with its rear windows destroyed and a building with shattered windows, and another blurry photo of a body lying next to a staircase.
In Zaporozhye, officials reported that a Russian drone attack targeted a minibus, killing two men and a woman and wounding 8 people, including a 7-year-old child.
As for the city of Kharkiv in the northeast of the country, officials announced that a slide bomb targeted the city, killing a 23-year-old woman and wounding 10 people.
Zelensky’s letters
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said – in a video speech – that the Kremlin had set 15 dates for extending control over the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine within more than 4 years and postponed them.
“The Russian political leadership is still obsessed with the Donbass region. If Russia does not end the war, it will have to postpone that deadline again,” he added.
Russian forces currently control most of the territory of the Donbass region, which includes the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk, but they have not yet succeeded in extending full control over the region.
Zelensky’s comments came in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rejection of what was described as an offer from Kiev to stop long-range strikes and calm the fighting.
The Ukrainian president said that Putin’s speech shows that he is disconnected from the concerns of the Russian people, who face queues in front of gas stations due to Ukrainian strikes on oil facilities.
He continued, saying: “Even an oil-producing country – and a gas station, as it is called – is now facing fuel crises.”
The Russian war in Ukraine – which continues for the fifth year – has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands. Recently, Kiev launched a series of attacks deep inside Russia targeting oil facilities, which led to a shortage of fuel supplies.
