The people of the northern Gaza Strip held the first mass wedding in Jabalia camp since the outbreak of the Israeli war on the region, where 150 brides and grooms married residents of the areas that were subjected to destruction and forced displacement, in a scene that embodies the Palestinians’ adherence to life despite killing, displacement and absolute siege.
The procession started from Jabalia camp, where the newlyweds and their families gathered in the streets, amidst the playing of flutes and the beating of drums, and they joined in a celebratory march that toured the destroyed neighborhoods, reaching a large wedding hall specially erected for this occasion, in which children, women and men gathered.
The grooms were decorated with the Palestinian keffiyeh, while the brides wore traditional Gazan clothing, a gesture that affirmed their adherence to national identity despite the harsh circumstances.
According to a report broadcast on Al Jazeera Live, this mass wedding represents the first event of its kind in northern Gaza since the beginning of the Israeli war on the Strip on October 7, 2023, following the Palestinian resistance’s launch of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood,” and reflects the will to live that does not break despite the pain.
This mass wedding – according to the report – reflects a blatant challenge to the occupation and the catastrophic humanitarian conditions, as the Palestinians emerge from the cycle of loss and destruction to confirm that life goes on.

One of the sheikhs participating in the arrangements for the occasion expressed the meaning of this carnival, saying that it is an affirmation of adherence to this land despite everything, and that marriage is a prophetic tradition that must be performed even in the darkest circumstances.
One of the grooms said that he had lost 200 members of his family since the beginning of the war between martyr and missing, which makes this joy laden with deep wounds and indicates that some grooms get married carrying the wounds of losing loved ones, family and friends.
This collective wedding carries a double message: the first to the whole world that Gaza is invincible, and the second to the people themselves that joy and hope can grow from the womb of sadness and devastation, just as flowers grow from under the rubble.
This mass wedding remains engraved in the memory of northern Gaza, as evidence that joy is stronger than bombing, that life is stronger than death, and that the keffiyeh, joy, and the newlyweds will always be a symbol of the legendary Palestinian steadfastness, as the report confirms.
Palestinian government statistics showed on June 20 that the war caused the destruction of more than 70% of the housing units in northern Gaza, with the complete displacement of the residents of several towns and villages, at a time when the occupation continues to prevent the displaced from returning to their homes under security pretexts.
Despite these harsh conditions, Palestinians continue to organize social and humanitarian events, such as mass weddings, to affirm their commitment to life and rebuild their social fabric.
