NEW JERSEY. Did Victor Nilsson Lindelöf reveal his position?

It sounded like that at the press conference before the match.

– It would come naturally if I played further back, he says.

The rights holder SVT interviewed Victor Nilsson Lindelöf shortly before the general press conference before the match against France.

– We’ll see where I play tomorrow, but it could probably be a little further back, he says to SVT.

Does that mean that the substitute defensive midfielder is over? It didn’t last more than a half against Japan as the team captain was demoted to centre-back when Isak Hien broke down.

“The boss decides”

Sportbladet asked Nilsson Lindelöf to elaborate on his thoughts at the press conference.

– I actually don’t know (where he will play). That’s up to Graham Potter to decide. But since Isak Hien is gone, which is a big loss for us, it would be natural for me to play further back in the field. But I don’t know one hundred percent. It’s up to the boss to decide.

Union captain Graham Potter has a habit of basically never revealing any tactical details. Not this time either.

Potter: “He should be comfortable with it”

Where do you get the most out of Victor: as a centre-back or inside midfielder?

– He can be both. That is the truth. He has played as an inside midfielder for Aston Villa in the Premier League. But also a lot of games as a centre-back. When it comes to this part of his career, with his experience and quality, it’s about how he can best help the team. He should also be comfortable with it, says Potter and concludes:

– So it’s great to have that kind of resources in a cup game. Especially considering injuries or tactical changes. Then it’s nice to have a player who can do different things.

Potter was vague about the starting XI.

– France has its characteristics as a team. It affects our decisions (with the starting XI). We have lost Isak Hien who is a key player and important person for us. The good thing is that everyone in the group is ready to help. Then we get what the solution will be.
